Responsive Web Design
There is an endless number of different devices accessing your website. Creating a different version of your website for each new device would be impossible, or at least impractical. For that reason, we create responsive websites. Responsive web design enables you to have one version of your website that works across all devices. Today, it is the preferred method of presenting content across multiple device types.
Responsive Web Design (RWD)
Responsive websites have the ability to automatically respond to the user’s preferences. This eliminates the need for a different design and development for each new device on the market. If a user views your website on an iPhone and then moves to a laptop, a responsive website automatically changes to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities.
Responsive Web design is a completely new way of thinking about design. It has some challenges in development because the same design must maintain a fluid nature and transfer to many devices. However, choosing to use responsive design has some great benefits:
A mobile site is essentially a separate copy of your website, where the server does the work to deliver a page that’s designed specifically for a smaller device. Usually, the design is also different on the mobile version (stripped down) to make it faster and easier to navigate. In addition, many of the elements on the pages (or entire pages) are eliminated. The goal is to have a mobile optimized page that’s easier for people to use on a small screen.
Mobile users are not sitting around browsing on a big screen like they would on their desktops – they are looking for something in particular – to buy, to find directions, to phone you, or to find out something about you. Because of this, keeping elements simple will help improve their experience.
